UBUNTU. THE SPIRIT OF AFRICA
Ubuntu is a musical that emerged from the union of several groups from the NGO:
Music to save lives.
Aba Taano, the Ugandan Sticks and the Natumayini girls
Musical direction; Ssenteza Derrick. Artistic direction; Elisabeth Michot
The Aba Taano.
The group has been singing all over Europe for 11 years; they live in Uganda and regularly travel to Europe. They have released 5 studio albums, 3 concert albums, 1 online concert and numerous music videos. Aba Taano has also created a virtual library of African Voices (Kyawa, by Eduardo Tarilonte). They have collaborated on the soundtrack of the film HIS HOUSE composed by the Spanish composer Roque Baños. They have sold more than 50,000 CDs, performed in more than 2000 concerts in 14 countries in Europe (including the Vatican where they sang in September 2021) and have won 11 international awards (among others, the Leipzig audience award). In 2022 they recorded the video PREMOVE, which will open the documentary on chess that will be broadcast soon. They were chosen to participate in the Moscow competition in May 2020 and re-invited in 2021, but the pandemic and the war have made the festival impossible. In 2022 they were invited to sing in the Vatican, in the Synod Hall. In 2023 they participated in the television show Got Talent. Everywhere they are praised for the beauty of their voices and the enormous work that sustains them. Their repertoire is inspired by the Soweto Gospel Choir, Umoja or the Lady Smith Black Mambazo. They are 5 warm voices, four boys and a girl full of humor, joy and dynamism.
The Ugandan Sticks and their drums from Rwanda.
They have been dancing contemporary dance since 2013. They are members of our NGO, based on music and dance. They have toured all the provinces of Spain, without exception, with resounding success and reactions such as: “but these boys hypnotize you”, “how wonderful… what strength, what dynamism!” etc. They have made more than 30 tours around Spain with their cultural dances, their tribal dances and, on this occasion, they will dance to the voices of Aba Taano and will also intervene with their exciting drums.
The Natumayiini Girls
It is a group of tribal and creative dances, which also arises from our humanitarian project. They are also young girls who have been raised and continue, for two of them, in our Kireka orphanage
Synopsis of the Show:
The show invites you to experience the energy that reigns in Africa. 5 singers, 9 dancers and percussionists and a narrator tell us what Africa is, why that continent is so different. The musical is a succession of dances, South African gospel songs, contemporary and creative dance, describing Africa, its past and present, its traditions, its rituals, its myths, the famous 1884 conference (the Berlin conference), slavery, immigration, and brings us closer to the incredible theme of forgiveness. But Africa is, above all, rhythm, joy, and hope. UBUNTU shows us Africa, from its tribal dances to its evolution towards a modern world. A show full of color, of vibration. The audience comes out dancing.
